LEAGUE CELEBRATES 30TH "PEARL" ANNIVERSARY
Year 2008 saw the big thirtieth anniversary of the league (yes, I know we are a year late on this). Below are some excerpts of the original December 13, 1978 bylaws.
"Article II - Purpose
To inspire youth, regardless of race, color or creed; to practice the ideals of sportsmanship, scholarship and physical fitness....To acquaint boys with the fundamentals of sports, and of maintaining a sound, physical, mental and moral condition. To keep the welfare of the boy first and entirely free of adult lust for glory...."
The charter teams were: Casey, Clinton Blue, Clinton Gold, Marshall, Palestine and Paris; all but the Clinton teams remain.
An admirable purpose, this is. Of course in recent years the mission has expanded to include our female players. We most sincerely hope that every single adult connected to the league: whether parent, fan, opposing fan, observer, teacher, coach or official, keeps this purpose in heart and mind, and practices it always.
JAMBOREE AT PARIS AUGUST 16, 2009
This year's Jamboree is being held, starting at noon, at John P. Allen Memorial Field in Paris. The address is 401 Buena Vista Street. The entire football establishment in Paris is crackling with excitement for the event, as the players and coaches all across the league just want to square their shoulder pads and start hitting someone.
Each team will have two or three scrimmages during the Jamboree. Their will be two five minute periods per scrimmage. Each team will have an offensive and a defensive period per scrimmage. Each offense starts on the 40 yard line. Official scores are not kept, but the scrimmages are officiated, with penalties called.
Admission is $2 for adults, and $1 for kids. The admission goes to the home team, with a different team hosting the Jamboree every year. An excellent food and drink concession is available for the entire Jamboree, with T shirt and football equipment vendors to boot. An excellent turnout is expected, with plenty of action for players and spectators alike. Parking is plentiful, with overflow parking on the street and at the Catholic Church. Come check out the fun and excitement!
