THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION
A great contest is taking place tonight, September 26 at Marshall when the 4 and 1 Paris Tiger fifth and sixth grade visit the 4 and 1 Lions. Each team has lost only to Casey-Westfield, and the matchup should go great lengths to set the playoff seeds. The seventh and eighth grade game should also be well matched, with the 3 and 2 Tigers meeting the 2 and 3 Lions. Each program has many players, so there should also be a good halftime game for the fifth graders.
The East Central Panthers, visiting the winless Martinsville Bluestreaks Saturday night, should have no problem handling Martinsville. The seventh and eighth grade Panthers have lost only once this year. Because the fifth and sixth grade Panthers have only won once, it appears by records that this game is competitive. However, since the Panthers have a significant roster number advantage over the Bluestreaks, East Central's fifth and sixth grade should be able to overcome Martinsville's home advantage. A big crowd is anticipated, as the fans on both sides are great support.
Cumberland comes into Palestine-Hutsonville's field on Sunday as the fifth and sixth grade home teamers are anticipated to win. Cumberland's seventh and eighth grade has lost only to Casey-Westfield, whereas Palestine-Hutsonville has key injuries and has suffered with relatively low rosters. A definite advantage to Cumberland in this match.
The Tri-County Titans visit the Casey-Westfield Braves, to round out the schedule. The Braves, undefeated in both age groups, should defeat Tri-County, which has quite low roster numbers. An interesting aspect is that the Titans fifth and sixth grade nicely defeated Cumberland last week. The fifth and sixth Titan squad is not so much low on players, but many of their players are fourth graders. The Titans hope to build on last week's success.
EAST CENTRAL SEVENTH AND EIGHTH SHUTS OUT MARSHALL
MARSHALL FIFTH AND SIXTH DEFEATS EAST CENTRAL IN TIGHT MATCH
TRI-COUNTY AND CUMBERLAND SPLIT WINS
CASEY-WESTFIELD DOMINATES MARTINSVILLE
PARIS DEFEATS PALESTINE-HUTSONVILLE
The Paris Tigers fifth and sixth grade defeated the Palestine-Hutsonville Pioneers 30-8. In a rain delayed game that took almost 2 hours to complete, Paris was able to stop the Pioneers and cause turnovers. Paris hit the board early when Chris Johnson ran the ball around the left end to score. Brendan Bradfield broke loose late in the first quarter resulting in a 12-0 contest. Then the rain and lightning hit! After almost an hour delay, play resumed with just four minutes left in the half.
Palestine-Hutsonville fumbled the ball early in the second half, which Paris recovered. Conner Polk scored a touchdown after the Pioneers' mishap. Next Brendan Bradfield scored a touchdown to make the score 24-0. Palestine-Hutsonville was able to hit the board in the third for a 24-8 game. Connor Polk broke loose up the middle for the final 30-8 match.
The Paris defense played very well today with Austin Shonk, Brady Sutton, Steve Johnson and Kyle Borchers leading the way!
The half time game was exciting to watch. Paris' defense shut out Palestine-Hutsonville. Paris took over during the second period to score multiple times.
Thanks to all the kids on both teams for a fine game. Both teams displayed great sportsmanship throughout. Good luck to the Palestine-Hutsonville kids and coaches next week!
