GREAT GAMES THIS WEEKEND

The players and fans of the league look forward to good competition and perfect mid-sixties football weather this Sunday. Tri-County visits Martinsville, which are the two teams most affected this year by seriously low roster numbers. Martinsville is gearing up to win their first games of the season, with the help of home field advantage. They will have a big and fair challenge with the Tri-County Titans, which have won some games this year at both age groups, and the Titans are highly motivated coming off of the seventh and eighth grade's forfeit last week.

Palestine-Hutsonville visits Marshall, both guaranteed playoff teams in the fifth and sixth grade. The Marshall Lions lead the Palestine-Hutsonville Pioneers by record, but if the Pioneers win the two teams will have the same record. I believe that this would give the Pioneers a higher seed than Marshall in the playoffs. The seventh and eighth grade should also show strong competition in this match.

The Cumberland Junior Pirates experience fall in Paris for these two playoff bound seventh and eighth grade teams. The Junior Pirates will clinch second seed in the playoffs if they win, but the Paris Tigers will pass Cumberland in the ratings if Paris wins. The fifth and sixth grade Tigers, playoff bound, should handle the Junior Pirates.

The marquee game this week has the undefeated seventh and eighth grade Casey-Westfield Braves hosting the once beaten East Central Panthers. The Braves have been winning lopsided victories all year, and the Panthers lost by only two points in their only setback. The rivalry between these two teams is always fierce; this is football at its finest. Despite the fierce rivalry, the fifth and sixth grade Braves should have no problem defeating the Panthers. The Panthers have lost most of their games by small point differentials, but the Braves have won every game by large margins.

TRI-COUNTY SEVENTH AND EIGHTH FORFEITS GAME FOR LACK OF PLAYERS

by Webmaster

The Tri-County Titans have put in a valiant effort all season without sufficient personnel to play eleven man, free substitution football properly. The seventh and eighth grade Titans have finally succumbed to the issue, in forfeiting to the Casey-Westfield Braves. Only nine Titan players were ready to play in this game. I have been covering the league for three years now, and this is the first time I have seen a forfeit of this type happen. This could have just as easily happened to Tri-County or Martinsville at any point in the past couple of years, and at one point Cumberland's seventh and eighth grade was low enough on personnel to risk the same thing. Cumberland has since been able to field a team with plenty of players and talent. I believe that the low roster issue needs to be addressed by the league somehow; the low roster teams should be able to compete on a more level situation. The rules might indicate that both teams are required to play offense and defense, like the old days, when the low roster teams are involved, or they might have a six or eight man team rule when one or both teams fall below a predetermined roster level.

Note - Webmaster has no rule making involvement with the League. The above story is the Webmaster's opinion only, which the League may or may not share.

MARSHALL AND PARIS TRADE SHUTOUTS

Marshall's fifth and sixth grade shut Paris out this week in this battle of once beaten teams. The game had a tight score of 16 to 0, the same score as the seventh and eighth grade Paris and Marshall matchup. But in this game, Paris came out the victor.

MARSHALL VICTORIOUS AGAINST PARIS FIFTH AND SIXTH

by Keith Bradfield

First, let me say Thank You to the coaches, parents, and kids at Marshall for the hospitality and sportsmanship. Marshall certainly has a great program.

The game, like others on Saturday evening, was a wet one. If the game would have ended 2 minutes earlier, the score would have been 8-0. But, it didn't and Marshall was able to score very late in the game to make it 16-0. The game was well played by both teams. Neither team dominated the other. It was a great game to watch!

Paris, without starting quarterback Connor Polk (out due to injury at school), was able to move the ball in the slop. Salem Isaf, our 5th grade QB, stepped up to the starting position and played very well. Brendan Bradfield and Mackie Mullenix both carried the ball very well and racked up some nice yardage. Unfortunately, Paris just kept falling short of the end zone. The Marshall defense is a tough one and did their jobs by keeping us scoreless.

On the defensive side, Paris was lead in tackles by Brendan Bradfield, Brady Sutton, Steve Johnson, and Levi Shaffer. Our defense played hard all game.

Paris welcomes Cumberland to our field next Sunday.

CUMBERLAND FIFTH AND SIXTH LOSES TO PALESTINE-HUTSONVILLE BUT SEVENTH AND EIGHTH CUMBERLAND WINS BIG

The Palestine-Hutsonville Pioneers scored 16 points in the fifth and sixth grade game, while Cumberland's squad was held pointless. The first game helped motivate the Cumberland Junior Pirates, as the seventh and eighth grade scored at will in a 36 to 6 contest. The Pioneer's injury woes continued in this game as Ben Chapman, a starting offensive end and defensive cornerback, broke his arm in two places.

CASEY-WESTFIELD FIFTH AND SIXTH SHUTS OUT TRI-COUNTY

by Bob Dane

The much anticipated Casey-Westfield Braves vs Tri-County Titans game was played on a wet and muddy Casey field. This is real football weather and both teams adapted quite well. The Titans needed a win for a chance at the play-offs. The Brave Offense accepted the challenge and came out ready to play. On the first play Ethan Lucas scampered into the endzone for a 55 yd TD run. The stingy Casey defense also came to play and turned the Titans away on a 3 and out. The next Casey-Westfield offensive drive was identical to the first with Brett Currey rambling in from 50 yds out for a TD. The Braves scored two more times in the first half for a 28-0 first half score. The Titans had the ball for the start of the second half. A tough defensive stand forced a turnover. The Titans "D" stopped the Purple machine on next possession and Casey was forced to punt. The Tri-County team which is loaded with fourth and fifth graders put up a good fight all day and their future is bright. The Braves scored one more time on a quarterback keeper - a blown play. As the end of the game approached, both teams had their younger players on the field with the Titans in possession of the ball. As the final buzzer was sounding, a full push by the Braves "D" resulted in a safety for the final score of 36-0. On the 7th & 8th grade game, Tri-County forfeited due to a lack of players. The Titans started the season with only 15 players and the Braves' players and coaching staff have our utmost respect for the Titans toughing it out and giving 100% when they play. They were expecting to have 12 players healthy by Wednesday. Casey-Westfield will host the East Central Panthers next week for the final game of our regular season.
