Wabash Valley Youth Football Times

The first week of football saw several important matchups. The fifth and sixth grade Paris Tigers defeated the Marshall Lions by a very narrow shutout. This observer noticed a strong showing by the Tigers during the Jamboree, but the strong defensive effort by Marshall indicates that both teams are potential playoff material. The rain delayed 7th and 8th grade Marshall Lions had a stong outing in their win over Paris. Palestine-Hutsonville 5th and 6th was soundly defeated by Cumberland. Coach Elder of Palestine-Hutsonville explained to me that his younger team is in a rebuilding mode, with lots of mistakes likely in the early part of the season. Also, Cumberland in both age groups seemed strong to me at the Jamboree. Palestine-Hutsonville 7th and 8th is proud of their substantial victory over the Junior Pirates. Martinsville 5th and 6th soundly defeated Oblong, with Oblong returning the favor in the 7th and 8th contest. Perennial powerhouse Casey-Westfield shut out both Tri-County squads to round out an excellent week of ballganes.
